Have you ever wondered why so many Christian marriages are struggling?<\/em><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Worldly thinking has crept in.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The modern-day understanding of marital love is not Biblical love \u2013 it\u2019s contractual love. <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Essentially, \u201cIf you give to me, then I continue to give back,\u201d or \u201cIf you will uphold your end of the deal, then I will uphold mine.\u201d This is not Biblical, selfless, devoted, covenantal love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But God is the God of covenantal love, and He has always loved His people this way. He made covenant promises with His people to protect them, deliver them, be present with them, and be faithful to them. Even when God\u2019s people were not faithful, He was always faithful to His promises. And now, He loves us faithfully, and He pours out His love on us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His love looks like 1 Corinthians 13:<\/em><\/strong><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLove is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking; it is not easily angered; it keeps no account of wrongs. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is what biblical marriage looks like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the very definition of love…<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
that so many included in their marriage ceremonies \u2013 but many often forget this definition or let disappointments, hurts, and resentments cloud their understanding of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For so many, when they forget or hurt builds up with resentment and unresolved issues, Christians resort back to the world\u2019s standards \u2013 which is, \u201cYou complete me\u2026and if you don\u2019t anymore, see ya later!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe they don\u2019t go to the extreme of quitting just yet \u2013 but they certainly do not desire to uphold their side of their vows. Nor do they remember the love of Christ poured out upon them\u2026.daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And let\u2019s be clear: Christians vowed to God even before they made vows to their spouses!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And when there have been years of disconnect, hurts, and resentments, a spouse can easily get to where they are nearly \u201cdone\u201d and maybe even have given up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It should have never gotten to this place. But it did, slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gradually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, what\u2019s the answer for honorable but hurting Christians?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Gospel<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
The Good News that though we have miserably failed at our side of things, God, in His mercy, offers forgiveness and grace to the repentant sinner through His Son Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God\u2019s picture for love infused freshly in our marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God\u2019s design for marriage and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Godly wisdom, practical advice, encouragement, the right tools, and clearing out worldly ideas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is what is needed\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many look for help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What do you usually find?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A \u201cChristian\u201d helper that does not touch the Word of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Worldly \u201ccontractual love\u201d advice.<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n
Manipulative, catchy solutions to win your spouse in X days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And these don\u2019t work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of course, they don\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because MOST of the marriage helps out there are nothing more than tricks, manipulations, and ways to convince your spouse to change or stay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the biggest problem with all of these?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are NOT LOVE. Not marital love purely designed by our Creator. They are self-focused, self-serving, and completely focused on just getting what you want right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I talk to people every week who have tried these type of programs and they didn\u2019t work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And for a Christian, they won\u2019t. And shouldn\u2019t. Because we are to love Covenantally not contractually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God has spoken: \u201cI have loved you with an everlasting love\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
